A vintage dress from the late 1970s (possibly early 1980s) designed by John Bates (of Jean Varon fame)--see below for my notes on the dress labels. The dress is black with pink florals and metallic thread interwoven throughout. It has an elasticized neckline, puffed sleeves, and a large lace collar and sleeve cuffs. It zips up the back. The exterior fabric is a crisp polyester, and the interior lining is acetate.
Note: when I acquired the dress, it had a "Jean Varon" paper hang tag safety pinned to the dress (it looked like a store tag), but the dress has a "John Bates" label on the inside--John Bates was the designer for Jean Varon. I'm not sure if this is a Jean Varon label dress that was sold in the John Bates salon that is missing its interior Jean Varon tag, or a dress from the John Bates label. Either way, it's a dress designed by John Bates.
